I love Christmas , it is my favorite time of year. I love being able to give. I love the looks on peoples faces when they receive their gifts. I love the closeness and warmth that I feel because of christmas. Here is a letter to Santa

Dear Santa, I’m older

But, still believe in you
(At least, I believe in
The things you try, to do).

Maybe, I can’t ask for
A Doug Gordon DVD, or, a train.
(But, if you’d bring one of them
You know, I won’t complain).

But, what I really wish for
Is a special present

Everybody needs a little love and happiness
And some, need a lot

You know me I am needy.

But, if you get a tiny bit
You still know what you got.

So Santa, drop a little love and DG DVD
Under each Christmas tree
Then, all will get a present of me
From what it’s ‘posed to be.

And if there is no tree
For the alone, and poor
When you get, to their place
Just, drop, a little more.

Sorry had to throw posed and DG DVD  in . He He.

Seriously though today is a day to love, be loved and most of all forget everything bad. Just enjoy the day because it is only here once year and goes way too fast

Merry Christmas to all
And Happy New Year, too
As we all say, farewell to 2009

I wish you good health

Happiness and cheer
And all the best things
In, the new, coming year.

Be happy , be loved!

This is what makes it all worth while.

Where Does Inspiration and Success Come From?

Inspiration and Success 1
No matter how much you love shooting, there will always be days when you need inspiration from somewhere. You cannot wait to be inspired, you have to want it and be receptive to it coming from everywhere. In life there are signs everywhere.

I believe success starts with one being themselves. Quite simply it is a matter of knowing who you are and where you are going. This is key to getting the most out of who you are. You must self-actualise at all costs. In life, good luck comes from opportunity that is created by oneself. I firmly believe in order to be great you must do what you love – do what you want to do and you will be great. When someone like Tiger Woods or a Michael Jordan become the best at what they do, it is because they are fuelled by nothing but love, passion and the desire to conquer and be the best at their craft. The results they achieve are mind blowing, as we know. People around the world are in awe of these people year after year and we need to look close and ask ourselves how we can learn from this and be great ourselves I recently had a conversation Jerry Ghionis and he said to me that in order to be truly great, ‘One must work a minimum of 10,000 hours at their craft.’ After thinking about it I realised that greatness can’t just come from work. To succeed you first have to know what it is you want to do with your life and then ensure you do nothing else, at all costs – this is the first lesson.

Inspiration and Success 2

The second is to ensure you overcome all obstacles that come your way. There will be many lessons during your journey. Notice I say lessons. In order to be great, failure cannot be an option. You need to be persistent. Never give up. The only way you can fail is if you give up and stop trying. One of my favourite movie quotes of all time comes from the most recent Rocky movie. In this Rocky says to his son, ‘In life it is not how hard you hit, it’s how hard you get hit and keep moving forward.’ I love this quote. What he is saying is very simple. In order to be the best you must always keep trying.

You cannot be scared to be who you are and to make a statement. Whether people love what you do, hate what you do, or are even indifferent about what you do. The question is do they remember you? Did you leave an impression? How many famous people do you know of because of something bad, strange or indifferent they have done? In order to stand out you cannot care what anyone says or thinks. I promise you this will not be easy. However the rewards of change and thinking outside the box will far outweigh the failures. We are all afraid of not fitting in, or worse, failure. Fear, as we all know, is an emotion that we all live with. To have success in any area you must learn what fear is and how to deal with it. Successful people have fear, but they know how to manage it better than most.

When people make decisions to pursue what they really desire, fear is almost always there. Fear is often there because people are afraid of the pain that may come if they go for what they want. Fear is natural, but when it stops you from making a decision, or taking a chance, it is a waste. All the greats have fear. One of the things that makes them great is how they deal with it.

Inspiration and Success 3

Take Time to Think and Plan. One characteristic that automatically goes along with ’successful’ people is their ability to take the necessary time to think, plan and set priorities. You need to have quick and strong approach towards your goals.

Flow. As you know I love the term ‘flow’. I consider this a mental state. A nirvana state. This is where highly successful people work on high-value tasks at a continuous level of activity. I feel in order to work best, you must enter into this state as much as you possibly can. If you think about it, being in the ‘flow’ is a top state of performance and productivity.Once you are in this state, everything you do will seem effortless to you.

How to get with the ‘Flow’. The fastest way to get with flow is by wanting more. You have to want more. Your desire to get on with the desired task quickly so you can achieve it faster. This is part of an impatience that motivates you to get going and to keep going. This will only help you to want more.

Be Curious – it is important to have a sense of curiosity.

Inspiration and Success 4

Companies, as well as people, can be curious. If you are open to change you will always be very curious.. Reintroduce curiosity into your life by changing the way you’re looking at the world to a more dynamic perspective. Instead of focusing on controlling the outcome when you photograph a wedding you should focus instead on accepting many possible outcomes. Such an outlook, in and of itself, will go a long way. I think it is important to have fun. Again put yourself in a position to have good thing happen. Don’t photograph at the obvious location. Take a moment a find a way to make the ordinary become extraordinary.

In my life I feel rich not because of money, but because everyday I get to go to work doing something I love. I always thought the only legacy I would leave in this world would be my beautiful children, but as I get older I realise I am leaving another as well. That is legacy of memories I have left for many many families over the years through my photographs.

As most of you know I absolutely love broadway. My two favorite plays by far are Wicked and Aida as anyone who sits near my desk can attest to. In other words I listen to these two soundtracks  like they are going out of style. Anyway this past weekend, My niece Hannah was slated to play the lead in her High School adaptation of Aida. She is a 9th grader. Honestly I didn’t expect much, but I was so wrong. She blew me away. While I was there I decided to take a few photos of the play for her. Well I was so into the play, the music, the cast I overdid a little. I decided to make a slideshow for he and her friends. Animoto of course. It took me roughly 3 minutes. I love the Animoto software. Don’t forget they give a free month if you use my name as the discount code. Anyway enjoy the slideshow. This is the original broadway cast soundtrack accompanying these photos. I can’t help but smile when I hear Aida tunes, especially these two. I hope you like my photos it was fun and a different pace for me.

I was thinking this morning and as you know that can never be good. How scary is it to ask someone how are you, how’s business? Lately when you ask that question, have you seen the look on people faces? There looks, there expressions say so much. The more I lecture and meet people in our wonderful field of photography, I here the term failure. What a depressing word. It is depressing to see people who have given up and are giving it one more try as they say. I have always thought it was unfortunate that the word failure is a noun. I prefer to think of failure as a catalyst for future success, or, as an unforeseen lesson with a lot of useful knowledge You will undoubtedly suffer some setbacks along the way. Unfortunately, history has taught us to see and cheer only the last experiment that succeeds and ignore the thousands that failed. We see only the final glory of each athletic victory and don’t see the years it took to develop the strength, skill and stamina to achieve that victory. Even if you fail and fall many times, that’s OK – just get up, dust yourself off and move on! I have heard it takes almost ten thousand ours of work to just get really good at something. I want to share a poem that my daughter learned in school recently: When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road your climbing seems all up hill, When funds are low and debts are high, When you want to smile but you have to sigh, When care is getting you down a bit, Rest if you must – but don’t you quit. I have found that often the contest DOES go to the last person standing. And that when one door closes another one does open..Take me for example: I wanted more than anything else in the world to go to be a Major League Pitcher. I was fortunate enough to have an incredibly strong are. throwing an average fastball of between 95-98 mph as a High School Sophomore. I was on easy street, ignoring my education being scouted by Major League teams at the age of 17. Then one day while pitching I felt a pop. Well it wasn’t just a pop. It was a tear. It was tear of my rotator cuff in my pitching shoulder. To say the least my pitching career was over. No MLB team would be interested in a kid with a bum shoulder, I was devastated. But, this forced me to take a slightly different direction in life. And, fortunately, My dad had his hand on my shoulder the entire time always preparing for me for the backup plan. I had no idea at this time I was already doing what I was meant to do do for several years. This injury led me down a new path, which allowed me to capitalize on my love of photography and utilized my ability to create relationships with people. By far my favorite thing to do. And that has resulted in a life that has been even more exciting and even more rewarding than I ever anticipated. I know one thing for certain the strength of your character comes not from how you react to your successes, of which I know there will be many. The strength of your character comes from how you react to your failures, of which there also will be many, especially if you make bold moves. to once again quote my Favorite italian Rocky Balboa, ” In life it’s not how hard you hit, it how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, keep getting up”. Don’t allow failure to be an option. Make it a wonderful learning experience that you embrace. Even though times may be hard now. Get inspired today to be better, stronger and love what you do. My ultimate message , always believe in yourself, persevere, but be willing to adapt.
